Last week, I had the honour of being invited to Hwa Chong Institution as one of the judges for their Mandarin songwriting and singing competition. It was a meaningful experience, not only because I got to witness fresh musical talent, but also because I saw some familiar faces, students I’ve come across in other competitions, continuing to hone their craft and grow in confidence.

As a singer-songwriter myself, I always appreciate the courage it takes to put your original work out into the world. It’s not just about performing but it’s about being vulnerable, expressing your thoughts and emotions through music, and connecting with others through your art.

Throughout the evening, I was impressed by the level of thought the students put into their compositions. Some explored themes of identity and self-reflection, while others chose to celebrate friendship, family, or the little moments in life. It reminded me of how powerful songwriting can be, especially when it comes from a place of authenticity.

Events like these are so important in nurturing young voices and giving them the space to explore, make mistakes, and grow. I’m grateful to Hwa Chong Institution for including me in this journey, and I’m excited to see where these young songwriters go from here.

Keep writing, keep singing, and keep believing in your stories.

On 8 June 2025, I had the pleasure of being part of the 《SG:SW 我寫我的歌 2025》Songwriters' Summit, a special day dedicated to nurturing the next generation of lyricists and composers.

I was honoured to lead a Mandarin lyrics writing session, where we explored how to write lyrics from scratch. The hall was filled with focused yet curious minds, and it was heartening to see participants soaking up every bit of guidance with such openness and hunger to grow.

The Songwriters' Summit also featured a panel discussion where fellow songwriters and I shared our experiences navigating creativity, self-doubt, and the evolving music landscape. Hearing different perspectives reminded me that while each journey is unique, our challenges and joys are often shared.

To round off the day, I performed two of my latest original songs: 《想一個人》and《我們有多不快樂》. It was a beautiful way to come full circle, from talking about lyrics, to teaching them, and finally expressing them live on stage.

Grateful for the invitation from Ocean Butterflies, the energy in the room, and every conversation that sparked new ideas and inspiration.

To all the young songwriters who came: keep writing!

Cheers,
Si Tong

I had the privilege of conducting my 3rd consecutive vocal workshop as part of 《新空下》.

Throughout the session, we dove deep into the essentials of pop vocals: breathing techniques, vocal warm ups, vocal projection techniques and singing posture. It was heartening to see everyone so eager to learn and unafraid to ask thoughtful questions. I believe that good vocal technique supports, but great artistry begins with self-awareness and that’s what we explored together.

Every time I guide a workshop like this, I’m reminded of how exciting and meaningful it is to watch emerging talents grow in confidence and skill. I’m thankful to 《新空下》for giving me the opportunity to contribute to their journey.

Cheers,
Si Tong

It's our 6th year participating in SGH Musicfest! This year, our singer-songwriter, Lin Si Tong, led her students from 365 Cancer Prevention Society to perform in this event.

This group of cancer survivors sang and played tunes from all-time-favourites on the ukulele during this MusicFest. They have been preparing diligently for the past few months and were hoping to present the best of them to the patients at SGH with the aim of encouraging others to bravely overcome all the challenges, because the journey to recovery might be a long and torturing process.

Well done everyone!

It's my second interview with Capital95.8FM this year! Glad to be back to promote my latest works for local drama series《新生 Babies On Board》.

It has been a long process, producing the songs《爱以外的意外》&《借来的亲人》from scratch during my pregnancy period, especially when I get rather sleepy often while working on stuff. Glad that the final products are well received by the listeners and audience!

Thanks everyone for the support and encouragement so far! More works coming soon, I promise.

Cheers,
Si Tong

It's always great to see so many kids improving their skills with useful workshops!
