Last week, I had the honour of being invited to Hwa Chong Institution as one of the judges for their Mandarin songwriting and singing competition. It was a meaningful experience, not only because I got to witness fresh musical talent, but also because I saw some familiar faces, students I’ve come across in other competitions, continuing to hone their craft and grow in confidence.
As a singer-songwriter myself, I always appreciate the courage it takes to put your original work out into the world. It’s not just about performing but it’s about being vulnerable, expressing your thoughts and emotions through music, and connecting with others through your art. Throughout the evening, I was impressed by the level of thought the students put into their compositions. Some explored themes of identity and self-reflection, while others chose to celebrate friendship, family, or the little moments in life. It reminded me of how powerful songwriting can be, especially when it comes from a place of authenticity. Events like these are so important in nurturing young voices and giving them the space to explore, make mistakes, and grow. I’m grateful to Hwa Chong Institution for including me in this journey, and I’m excited to see where these young songwriters go from here. Keep writing, keep singing, and keep believing in your stories. |

This year, our singer-songwriter, Lin Si Tong, led her students from 365 Cancer Prevention Society to perform in this event. This group of cancer survivors sang and played tunes from all-time-favourites on the ukulele during this MusicFest. They have been preparing diligently for the past few months and were hoping to present the best of them to the patients at SGH with the aim of encouraging others to bravely overcome all the challenges, because the journey to recovery might be a long and torturing process. Well done everyone! Finally the album is released! Congrats to William Cai 蔡卫廉 on the release of your new album《我的一生活在你心底 My Love Story》after 26 years. Your pursue in music really inspires me to keep doing music till I can't anymore.
It's my first time designing a CD album for another artiste. (I have only been designing my own albums and singles so far!) Big thanks to William Cai 前輩 for trusting my designing skills. Hope to have more collaborations real soon. :) Cheers, Si Tong It's my second interview with Capital95.8FM this year! Glad to be back to promote my latest works for local drama series《新生 Babies On Board》.
It has been a long process, producing the songs《爱以外的意外》&《借来的亲人》from scratch during my pregnancy period, especially when I get rather sleepy often while working on stuff. Glad that the final products are well received by the listeners and audience! Thanks everyone for the support and encouragement so far! More works coming soon, I promise. Cheers, Si Tong It's always great to see so many kids improving their skills with useful workshops! Yusof Ishak Secondary School held a Young Journalist event on 28 February 2018 to share with the kids, skills and knowledge on how to be a reporter. 林思彤 Lin Si Tong appeared as a guest interviewee for the kids to practice and apply what they have learnt during the event. |
